Beginning at the West end of Crissy field this mile takes you past the Swiss Warming Hut along Marine Drive on your way to Fort Point. For spectators, mile 6 is such a great place to cheer with espresso and wonderful snacks.
Between the Swiss Warming and Fort Point is a stretch of road with waves crashing on the right and the Golden Gate Bridge stands majestically in the background. This is a very popular spot to film car commercials and , most likely will look familiar to a lot of you.
Fort Point is also where Albert Hitchcock filmed part of his classic: Vertigo (1958). This is where Madeleine , played by Kim Novak, in a critical scene, attempted suicide by leaping off a casement and into the bay. But what is just so super cool, for surfers from everywhere visiting San Francisco is that this area , even though a bay area has actual surf! This is a must stop pre or post race for any surf enthusiast!
Drama aside, Fort Point is a pretty interesting place in its own right. A day trip here is a great way to learn about the evolution of San Francisco from the mid-1700’s through the Civil War era.
