A Note from the Race Director

SF Marathon Race Director Pam with her dog, Dublin.

12 weeks from today you will be shuffling just a bit slower, easing into your chair with a bit more effort than normal and taking care not to whack sore toes on doors and bed posts. But if we complete our jobs in The Biofreeze San Francisco Marathon office successfully you will also be telling race day stories with a smile on your face, your super cool Finisher’s Medal around your neck and a new SF Marathon shirt on your back. (Yes, you are suppose to wear your medal for at least an hour a day after you finish your race!)

When I am out running a race I am constantly taking notes in my mind – “Good water signage here”, “Awesome Cheer Station”, “I hate coffee flavored gels”, “So glad there was hand sanitizer in the port-a-john”, “Did the course REALLY have to go over this hill?”… you get the idea. It’s at these times I wish I could just contact the Race Director and ask these oh so important questions.

Well, this week I am taking over The SF Marathon Facebook and Twitter accounts so that YOU can ask ME these same questions about OUR race. Where will the cheer stations be? Why does the race start so early? Where does my mother/father/friend/spouse boss park so that they are able to greet me at the finish with flowers? What should I wear on race day and where can I find a post race coffee or beer… On Wednesday at 11AM PST, join me on Twitter for our #SFMChat (Use the hashtags in your tweets!) to discuss the important- or not-so-important-  details of this event.

In 2010 The Biofreeze San Francisco Marathon was named one of the Top 10 Must Do World Marathons and was the 13th Largest Marathon in the U.S. Thank you for support in helping us achieve this status! For 2011 we are looking to surpass these ratings and bring you one of the best race day experiences yet.  I hope you’ll join me on Facebook and Twitter this week to tell me exactly how I can make that happen.

Run Well,

Pam

Our Race Director Pam is a running veteran having completed 16 marathons, 2 Half Ironmans and more 1/2 marathons than she can count.  Pam LOVES running and yoga, is addicted to Red Bull, and enjoys living “Green”, cheering on The SF Giants, and cooking italian food! The thing she loves best about The Biofreeze San Francisco Marathon is “seeing people accomplish something they once thought was impossible. Run a marathon and you change your life!”
