Conquer Five Iconic Bay Area Races in 12 Months

The “Bay Area Challenge” offers a unique and thrilling experience for both seasoned athletes and first-time runners. Participants can complete any distance in the San Francisco Marathon (excluding the Lollipop), Giant Race, Berkeley Half Marathon (excluding the 1K distances), Oakland Marathon, as well as the San Jose 8K & Half Marathon, though they must complete five events consecutively. Interested runners can join anytime to complete the five consecutive events challenge, virtual races will also qualify.

Participants will have the opportunity to conquer the following races:
The Berkeley Half Marathon – November 2024
The Oakland Marathon – March 23, 2025
The San Jose 8K & Half Marathon – June 1, 2025
San Francisco Marathon – July 26-27, 2025
The Giant’s Race – August 2025 (TBD)

Challenge Rules

  • To be automatically eligible, runners must register for all events with the same first and last name and date of birth.
  • Runners are eligible to receive the challenge medal at their fifth qualifying event in the series, depending on where they started.
  • To qualify in SF please note the criteria for the runners who would be eligible for the Bay Area Challenge medal at the 2024 San Francisco Marathon:
    * Ran The Giant’s Race – September 2024
    * Ran The Berkeley Half Marathon – November 2024
    * Ran The Oakland Marathon – March 2025
    * Ran The San Jose 8K & Half Marathon – June 2025
    * Running The San Francisco Marathon – July 2025 (Qualifying Event)
  • The events do not have to be in the same year but they do need to be consecutive. If you skip an event, the challenge starts over.
  • Upon completing their fifth qualifying event, runners must pick up their commemorative medal at the race.  Medals will not be mailed.
  • Once a runner completes the challenge, the challenge starts again.
  • Remember to pick up your bib at our Race Weekend Bib Pick-up and check for the Bay Area Challenge stamp/print on the corner of your bib. You’ll need this stamp to redeem your medal at the Expo or Finish Line Festival. If your bib is not marked and you believe you are eligible, please visit the Challenge Table during Packet Pickup to confirm eligibility and get your bib stamped.
